The Objective

The Aim of this exercise was to create a foam model of the barrios using the CNC Milling machine and learning the milling process.

The Process

Step 1: The zone assigned to our group (Horta Guinardo-Nou barris) consists of two hills and a mountain on the north west so we first prepared the terrain in rhino.

Step2: The buildings and the streets were projected onto the terrain.The building footprints were set to a plane at the lowest point of the respective building for the purpose of vertical extrution(using setPt command).

Step3: The building were extruded to their exact height using the data from Internet.

Step4: As it was not possible to print the mountains with the remaining barrio the mountain and hills were separated from the model to be printed later.

Step5: The file was made ready for printing and divided in two parts in order to fit in the foam sheet.

Step6: The Model ( without mountain and hills ) was printed on the CNC Milling Machine.

Sub Step 1: Fixing the sheet on the base.

Sub Step 3: Vaccum cleaning the sheet.

Step7: The model is cut at the boundaries and cleaned using sandpaper.

Step8: To print the mountain and hills with the buildings on it.(Pending)

One bench for two,

The idea was to have a street sofa with the possibility that two people will use it.

you can seat on the edge or seat like a king in you Neighborhood street sofa.

The Y ribs – we make it in a way that some of the ribs go in one direction  of the assembly , and some on the other of it, so it will be an easier means; that some could be directed up and then the X ribs will be stand.

Our initial idea was to create a form with “minimum structural elements”.

We thought it was something interesting but that it didn’t explore at all the potentiality of the 3d printer additive process.

WeaverBird has come to be our new best friend.

קם לתחייה ים המוות – מפעלי תיירות בים המלח

פרוייקט גמר, בצלאל המחלקה לאדריכלות, מנחים: אדר' יהושע גוטמן, אדר' ליאת מילר

בארבעים השנים האחרונות מתגלגלת סוגיית הצפת איזורי המלונות הנמצאים לחופי בריכות האידוי שבדרום ים המלח בין עשרות גופים וועדות ממשלתיות. מחלוקות בלתי פוסקות בין הגופים השונים בדבר אחריות לכישלונות העבר עיכבו את מציאת פתרונות הקבע לסוגיה התכנונית הבוערת והמורכבת. בימים אלה מוגשות הצעות לפתרונות קבע בהם ידונו משרדי הממשלה השונים במטרה להתחיל בפעולות מידיות להצלת מלונות ים המלח – מאתרי התיירות הפופולאריים במדינה.

פרוייקט גמר תקדימי שנעשה במסגרת "סטודיו מבנים מורכבים" במחלקה לאדריכלות בבצלאל, בהנחיית אדר' יהושע גוטמן ואדר' ליאת מילר, בחן את הפתרונות המוצעים בזמן אמת, ולאחר מחקר שנתי מקיף ומעמיק, בחר להציב חלופה תכנונית ממשית ברוח הזמן לאיזורי התיירות המוצפים. העבודה על הפרוייקט באקדמיה נעשתה במקביל לפעולות "החברה הממשלתית להגנות ים המלח" וכללה התייחסות רצינית ומפוכחת להיבטים התכנוניים השונים. כוחו של הפרוייקט הוא ביכולתו לפעול כמתווך ולבחון את האיזור באופן מציאותי אך ללא כניעה ללחצים ואילוצים, ועל כן הוא מאפשר תפיסה ייחודית, ואולי אף מהפכנית של המרחב.

הפרוייקט נשען על ההבנה כי על מנת למצוא פתרון קבע בר-קיימא לאגן ים המלח כולו יש להתייחס באופן שוויוני לגורמי התיירות והמלונאות באיזור וכן להביא בחשבון את הצרכים התעשייתיים של מפעלי ים המלח הפועלים באיזור, ולאפשר הן לתיירות והן לתעשייה תנאים אופטימליים להתפתחות תוך רגישות ומודעות סביבתית ללא האילוצים, המגבלות והפתרונות הרגעיים המוצעים כיום.

פתרון הקבע לסוגיית ההצפה שהציעו הסטודנטים בפרוייקט הוא למעשה מיזוג בין תכונותיהן הגמישות של בריכות האידוי של מפעלי ים המלח לבין צרכי התיירות המתפתחים באתר. לשם כך הם הציעו לתכנן בריכת אידוי נוספת, בלשון היבשה המפרידה בין האגן הצפוני לדרומי של ים המלח, מצפון לאיזור המלונות הקיים כיום.

הפרוייקט מציע  תכנון מחודש של איזור תעשייתי-תיירותי בים המלח שיפעל בתיאום מלא בין הגורמים ויכלול מענה תשתיתי יציב וארוך טווח הן לתיירות והן לתעשייה. האתר כולו ששטחו כ-16 קמ"ר תוכנן כפארק נופש ייחודי בעולם העושה שימוש בתכונותיו הבלעדיות של ים המלח ובקרבה לשמורות ואתרי הטבע באופן המאפשר שהות מגוונת וארוכת טווח. בין השאר הציעו הסטודנטים שימוש ביחידות מודולריות הניתנות להתאמה ולשינוי כך שניתן יהיה להתאים את הפארק לשינויים עתידיים במפלס המים. בנוסף הציע הפרוייקט שימוש במלח, תוצר הלוואי של התהליך התעשייתי, כאלמנט נופי – טופוגרפי  המשלב תכונות קונסטרוקטיביות ואסטטיות.

Andrew Kudless takes advanced and inspiration from the biology structures, use his studies to develop new artificial biology structure.

His studies show that natural biology structure system are depending on the same forces that architecture structure has to deal with.

The skin is a structure by its self it should not be just a shell (as we know animals skin is a part of more complex system), therefore at his work the skin is more complex it became to be the structure and the body. skin, structure and the body are one.

More then that he explore the materials he uses study their behavior, forces, form… and that for taking an advantage of it and maximize the opportunities that the material has to offer us and find the best way to use it.

Exchange program in Cept University, Ahmedabad, India, 2009-2010

The studio VIII is the first instance where the students encounter the city and respond to it.

The studio is an attempt at urban transformation by student projects where in the students are expected to take informed decisions and understand how their decisions impact lives of people.

The students will work towards enriching the urban environment through their designs.

The studio will be conducted in three components.

1.

A series of workshops to engage the students in issues revolving around urbanism

2.

An intensive period of seven weeks will have the students plugging into one site along with students from RPI, U.S. In this part, the different cultural factors are expected to play up and the decision making is to be about team work rather than individual.

3.

The final four weeks are for the student to develop their designs in individual capacity.
